Random footsteps and whispers are part of the deal as well, and all of these elements come together rather nicely. The sound effects are great, and there’s always something in the background to make you feel like you are being watched. Gorgeous graphics and pressing atmosphereĪs we all know, the atmosphere is what makes or breaks a horror game, and Outlast 2 seems to have what it takes to cause a few cold sweat episodes.
Overall, the story is a bit confusing in the demo, but it’s probably going to make a lot more sense in the full game once it is released. Naturally, things go pretty wrong all of a sudden, which is how the whole thing starts.
The story puts you in the role of a man by the name of Blake Langermann, who’s a cameraman trying to unearth all sorts of dark stories and make videos about them. On top of that, the horror elements have been polished as well, although jump scares are still a big part of the deal. In fact, the universe in which the action takes place is the same, only the setting and the characters have changed in the meantime. Outlast 2 is the sequel to a well-received first part, which is why the developers decided not to stray very far from the original in regards to story and gameplay. Although it’s scary to think about crazy monsters from other worlds that come to torture us in the night, it’s much scarier to realize that people can be just as scary, except much more real than monsters and demons.
